Sunday mornings  ·  8:30 – 9:30 AM  ·  Brookmont Church

The Riverside Meditation Community is a place for people to develop their meditation practice, build friendships, and explore Early Buddhist teachings, as well as teachings from other wisdom traditions. Our gatherings are open to everyone. We meet on Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM at the Brookmont Church at 4000 Virginia Place, Brookmont, MD.

All are welcome — no experience necessary.

Calendar

How It Works

Our gatherings will typically start with a 25–30 minute guided meditation, which may include breathing exercises and light movement. The meditation is followed by a 10–15 minute talk on a topic. After the talk, there is an open discussion as a whole group or in small groups.

Guiding Teacher

Devin Maroney

Devin is a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist and dharma teacher. He is affiliated with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW) and is a regular guest teacher at Downtown Dharma. He is also the founder of Oaklight Counseling. His teachings draw on Early Buddhist texts and practices integrated with somatic work, Western psychology, and new scientific discoveries about the mind and body.

Talks & Meditations

Guided meditations and dharma talks are available on Devin's Substack. New recordings are posted regularly and are free to access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need meditation experience to attend?
Not at all. Every session includes guided instruction suitable for beginners, and experienced practitioners are equally welcome. We ask only that you come with an open and curious mind.
Is this a Buddhist group? Do I need to be Buddhist?
Our practice is rooted in the Early Buddhist teachings, but we are not a religious organization and there is no requirement to identify as Buddhist. People from all faith backgrounds — and none — participate regularly. What we share is an interest in meditation and awakening to our lives more fully.
Is there a cost to attend?
There is no fee to attend. All teachings are offered freely. We do invite voluntary dana (generosity) to support the community — see the Dana section below for more.
What should I wear or bring?
Comfortable clothing suitable for sitting quietly. The church provides chairs; you're welcome to bring a meditation cushion or bench if you prefer. There's no dress code.
Is childcare available?
We do not currently offer childcare. If this is a barrier to your attendance, please reach out — we'd like to find a way to accommodate families as the community grows.

  2. You'll receive a confirmation email — simply reply to it (again, subject and body can be blank) and you're in.

We keep the list low-volume and will never share your address.

Collective Support
